| ABOUT > LEARNING PHILOSOPHY Na Roda is a one-of-a-kind learning institution created by Brazilian music fanatics for Brazilian music fanatics. But our approach to teaching and learning is grounded on well-established principles from the field of Learning Theory. |
| Student-Centered Students succeed when instructors understand their abilities, priorities, and enthusiasm. So instead of learning cookie cutter lessons designed for an average student, every Na Roda lesson and workshop is constructed around you. |
| Learn By Doing No long-winded lectures. At Na Roda, every class is hands-on. Even if you are learning improvisation, theory, or music history, you learn with your hands, voice and ears as well as your head. |
| Cross-Train to Dig Deeper Why would a pianist study cuíca? Why would a guitarist spend a month on tamborim? The folkloric roots of sophisticated modern Brazilian music are inescapable, and, therefore, fluency in Brazilian styles requires immersion in those rootsy building blocks. |
| Learn From the Source Na Roda instructors are skilled, professional musicians and perceptive educators who just happen to have acquired their craft in the heartlands of Brazilian musical styles: Rio , Bahia, and beyond. Our mission is to allow aspiring musicians from anywhere in the world to soak up their expertise. Further, we encourage students to attend the performances, informal sessions, and rehearsals of our instructors and their colleagues. |
| Communication Every musician and music lover share the common language of music itself. But if an instructor and student do not share a common language, we will provide an interpreter to facilitate communication at no additional expense to the student. |
