Domingos Couto Teixeira is from Juiz De Fora in Minas Gerais. The guitarist, composer and music instructor came to Rio De Janeiro in 1979 and studied music in the Escola Villa-Lobos. He studied harmony and arrangement with Ian Guest, and was subsequently invited by Ian to join the faculty of CIGAM (Centro Ian Guest de Aperfeiçoamento Musical), giving lessons in guitar and harmony.
Some of Bilinho's early musical achievements was to play and record with Jaime Alem, and with the Rio Jazz Orchestra, He later played with Maestro Cipó, Juarez Araújo, Sueli Costa, Tim Maia, Emílio Santiago, Leni Andrade, Zélia Duncan and Ney Matogrosso, among others.
Bilinho says, "I play Brazilian music: choro, bossa, samba. And jazz. In Choro my influences are the grand masters Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim. My other influences stretch from Joe Pass, Jim Hall and Bill Evans to H. Delmiro and Dino 7 Cordas."
He has recorded and played since 1993 with Fátima Guedes, participates in the group Choro na Feira, which has so far recorded two CDs Na Cadência do Samba and Choro na Feira.
His first solo CD was Brincadeiras de Quintal, and he is now embarking on a partnership with his brother on a project entitled Estevão Teixeira & Bilinho Teixeira - Em Companhia.
